Internship Opportunity: Communications Intern (Nairobi-based)

Location: Nairobi, Kenya (Hybrid – office, fieldwork & remote)

Duration: 3 months (with possibility of extension)

Women Shaping Cities is a social impact initiative working at the intersection of gender, care, and urban development. We champion livability by centering women, children, and caregivers in planning and policy, ensuring that cities become safer, more inclusive, and more just. 

Role Overview

The Communications Intern will play a critical role in enhancing WSC’s visibility and amplifying its advocacy voice. The role focuses on storytelling, branding, and external communications to highlight WSC’s mission, projects, and impact.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage WSC’s social media pages (LinkedIn, Instagram, and X/Twitter).

• Draft engaging newsletters, blogs, and human-interest stories.

• Develop simple graphics, posters, and digital content to showcase initiatives.

• Support visibility for events and campaigns (flyers, social media updates, live coverage).

• Track engagement and suggest creative ways to grow WSC’s digital presence.

• Assist with documentation of success stories, testimonials, and case studies.

Qualifications & Skills

• Background in Communications, Media, Marketing, or related field 

• Strong writing and storytelling skills.

• Familiarity with social media platforms and digital engagement.

• Basic design skills (Canva or similar tools).

• Creativity, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines.

• Interest in gender equality, mobility, and urban planning is an advantage.
