Internship Opportunity: Urban Planning Intern (Nairobi-based)

Women Shaping Cities is a social impact initiative working at the intersection of gender, care, and urban development. We champion livability by centering women, children, and caregivers in planning and policy, ensuring that cities become safer, more inclusive, and more just. 

Role Overview

The Planning Intern will support research, mapping, and project coordination across WSC’s initiatives. This role is ideal for an early-career urban planner seeking hands-on experience in applying planning knowledge to real-world contexts.

Key Responsibilities

• Support data collection (surveys, interviews, observations) and analysis.

• Assist with GIS mapping, spatial analysis, and preparation of visuals.

• Contribute to research reports, policy briefs, and technical presentations.

• Provide logistical and coordination support for workshops, dialogues, and field visits.

• Assist in the development of evidence-based planning tools and approaches.

Qualifications & Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Urban & Regional Planning.

• Familiarity with GIS/mapping tools (ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar).

• Strong research, writing, and analytical skills.

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a small team.
