Internship Opportunity: Community Development Intern (Nairobi-based)

Location: Nairobi, Kenya (Hybrid – office, fieldwork & remote)

Duration: 3 months (with possibility of extension)Start Date: 01 September 2025


About Women Shaping Cities (WSC)

Women Shaping Cities is a social impact initiative working at the intersection of gender, care, and urban development. We champion livability by centering women, children, and caregivers in planning and policy, ensuring that cities become safer, more inclusive, and more just.


Role Overview

The Community Development Intern will support grassroots engagement, fieldwork, and documentation of lived experiences across WSC initiatives. This role focuses on amplifying community voices and ensuring that urban change is people-centered.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support fieldwork, focus groups, and walk-alongs with women, children, and caregivers.

  • Assist in mobilizing community members for workshops, dialogues, and surveys.

  • Document community perspectives through notes, photos, or short human-interest stories.

  • Help strengthen relationships with grassroots partners, schools, and local leaders.

  • Provide feedback on how community insights can shape WSC projects and advocacy.


Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree (or final-year student) in Community Development, Sociology, Social Work, or related field.

  • Experience in grassroots mobilization, participatory approaches, or social research.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with sensitivity to diverse groups.

  • Ability to work in the field and adapt to dynamic community settings.

  • Organized, reliable, and able to work independently or as part of a small team.
